Gabriel Wilson Breaks Down Recruitment After 1,000-Yard Season at Cypress Falls

After a standout junior season, Cypress Falls running back Gabriel Wilson is starting to generate real interest on the recruiting trail.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound back earned First-Team All-District honors in 17-6A after rushing for 1,037 yards and 10 touchdowns on just 112 carries across 10 games, helping Cypress Falls clinch a share of the district title and the top seed in Division I. He averaged 9.3 yards per carry, showcasing his explosiveness and vision as a ball carrier.

Now, Wilson holds offers from UTEP, Arkansas State, Rice, Stephen F. Austin, Sacramento State and New Mexico.

Two of his more recent offers, New Mexico and Sacramento State, have already shared a vision for how he could be used in their respective offenses.

“They both said the same things pretty much. They love my speed and how I can hit holes,” Wilson said. “They said I would be a great fit for the offense they run.”

Wilson is planning to take an official visit to Rice in June and is looking for more than just the right football fit.

“I look for a school that can develop me not just as a player but as a man,” Wilson said. “And a school where I can have a good relationship with the coaches, players and compete on the field.”

As a runner, Wilson combines speed, patience, and toughness in the backfield.

“My playing style is patient. I’m a hard runner, blocker, and my speed and quickness definitely separate me,” he said.
