Jayden McGregory, a dynamic two-sport standout, is inching closer to a college decision.
The four-star athlete from Valley High School (IA), ranked No. 3 in the state by ESPN, has narrowed his college choices to Kansas, Louisville, Minnesota and Missouri. He’ll announce his commitment on July 7, but not before taking a final tour of each program.
McGregory kicks off his official visit schedule this weekend at Minnesota, then it’s Missouri on June 6, Kansas on June 13, and Louisville on June 20. A decision will follow shortly after.
While most services list McGregory as an “athlete,” his bread and butter is at safety, where he’s shown range, instincts, and a knack for making plays when it matters most. And McGregory is no stranger to the big stage. He’s just as electric on the basketball court.
This past season, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound McGregory led Valley to its third consecutive Class 4A state title, helping the Tigers become just the second team in Iowa history to three-peat at that level. In the championship game, McGregory poured in 26 points, pulled down eight rebounds, and handed out four assists, putting an exclamation point on a dominant run.
And in the state semifinals? He called game by draining the game-winning floater with slightly under two seconds remaining in overtime. He finished that game with 23 points, showing once again that when the lights shine brightest, he steps up.
His clutch performances earned him First-Team All-State honors from both the Des Moines Register and the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
Now, McGregory’s next chapter is just weeks away. For the programs still in the mix, June could be the month that tips the scales. For McGregory, it’s a chance to find the right fit—and for fans, it’s the countdown to a decision that’s sure to make waves.
