At 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Fairborn linebacker Almari Byrd believes that his blend of size, speed, and an aggressive edge has drawn the attention of multiple college programs.
The Class of 2026 standout has already earned offers from Dayton, Butler, Ohio Dominican, and Thomas More, and he’s hoping a strong senior season will open even more doors.
“I think I’ve had a pretty successful summer,” Byrd said. “I went to a few camps and showcases and was able to showcase my talent. I think I got a lot of exposure over the summer, and what really contributed to the D-I interest is my lateral speed and quickness in pass coverage and my speed off the ball when rushing the passer.”
Byrd doesn’t have any unofficial visits scheduled yet. He recently took a trip to Dayton on the 25th of July, and he’s keeping the door open for potential gameday trips to his current list of offers.
When describing his style of play, Byrd keeps it simple and confident.
“Aggressive and fearless,” Byrd said. “What separates me from others is that I can do my assignment on defense and still make plays that weren’t necessarily made for me to make.”
So far, all four schools have recruited him at a similar level, but Butler and Dayton have started to stand out in his mind.
“As of right now, all the schools recruiting me are recruiting me about the same,” he said. “I don’t feel like there’s a program recruiting me harder than the other, but the ones standing out to me right now are Butler and [Dayton].”
As for his decision timeline, Byrd isn’t in a rush.
“I’m looking to rack up as many offers as I can during the season,” Byrd said. “Hopefully, I can make a decision about a month or two after the season so I can get my senior film to coaches who might be interested.”
